About this site

Hello and welcome to my website,

The main content of this website is a number of GIMP (Graphic Image Manipulation Program) tutorials.

I have created the tutorials with the intention that they should be...

  • Structured
  • Consistent
  • Focus primarily on HOW to achieve something

There is meant to be little if any concept of easy, medium or hard.

There are three main overall sections...

  1. Introduction
  2. Description of formats, jargon and techniques used
  3. Main tutorials with finite outcome

The Main tutorials follow a standard format...

  • An Introduction section - most with an accompanying picture
  • Exercises formatted in blocks with titles, numbers and/or bullets (HOW)
  • An end section describing Why certain steps were/were not done a certain way

With that said quite a few 'Whys' are missing and the tutorials are based on an old version of GIMP.

I am quite happy to fix this but...

...I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK.

There is a link at the bottom of each tutorial to its matching Thread in the Forums.

PLEASE USE THEM

NB I created the GIMP tutorials before my Mozilla (Fifrefox etc.) themes.

Without first regaining control over the GIMP tutorials I will not commence new themes for Firefox etc.

Regards,

Greg

Site Development

For quite a number of reasons I have developed this site from scratch on my own.

That included all data modelling, application design and programming etc.

I created the database using MySQL5 for it's unix and stored procedure capabilities.

The applications layer is in Java for its cross platform capability and Object Oriented design.

NB with that said, almost all data logic occurs close to the data in stored procedures - the exception is the ISQL tool for admistration purposes only.

The core architecture is multi Company-Portal-Security-Application-Object.

This integrates with other objects to achieve a sound basis of extensibility.

An example of this is the appliance of template/theme by inheritence.

A single construction architecture prohibits reiteration while achieving utmost binding.

Put simply it allows a level of server performance that a number of other portal/web systems are incapable of.

I developed most of this during January and early Febraury of 2008.

Due to other commitments I was unable to give this much time from March through May.

As time permits I will be adding a number of other features for testing and/or proof of concept etc.

RE: The "glowy" themes
Hello mr Glowplug, i must say i do like your themes.  I know you said on your main page that without regaining control over your GIMP tutorial stuff you won't work on any new themes.  That's fair enough, but i just want to say, congrats on great

The glowy themes look great, but they aren't compatible with Thunderbird 2.0. Could you look into this please.

Hi there, Just read the "epic voyage" while finding my way around. Reminded me why I won't sail anywhere with anyone ever again. :-) BUT - my real interest is in the Glowy themes: Will they not run under Ubuntu Linux? Very sad if they don't - it's sa

Oops. Looks like I'll be around more often than I planned. :-D I have Ubuntu (I started on Xubuntu, but some of my hardware didn't work properly, and it was easier to move to Ubuntu than to hunt down all of the drivers I needed), and I like GIMP. Or, I li

The "glowy" themes
I love the look of the glowy themes; the dark backgrounds, the details and look of the gold icons. I'm interested in seeing a silver version; I've always liked silver better than gold. :-) Is there something like that in the future? When I saw the glowy t

I really didn't think this one through.I found it difficult to discern border lines across what belongs in Introduction, Techniques or Concepts.Maybe that's the problem - am I pidgeon holing it in a structure that is inapplicable.
